Just Desserts 2017 Highlights
Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council hosted its annual dessert
competition, Just Desserts, at the Junior League of Houston Thursday,
January 19. Half-a-dozen pastry chefs from across Houston battered it
out to create delicious desserts using Girl Scout Cookies, and
Smallcakes Houston was selected as the People’s Choice winner.
This year’s event celebrated 100 years of Girl Scouts selling
cookies, and the event’s football theme joined in the excitement of
Houston hosting Super Bowl LI. A century ago, girls started
participating in what would evolve into the largest entrepreneurial
training program for girls in the world: The Girl Scout Cookie
Program®, through which girls learn the essential skills they need to
become effective leaders, manage finances and gain self-sufficiency
and confidence in handling money.
More than 100 guests enjoyed the palate-pleasing event as celebrity
chefs vied for the best in each of the following categories: Most
Creative Recipe, Best Use of Cookie, Best Table Display, Celebrity
Judges Favorite, Best Theme Interpretation and People’s Choice Award.
