Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council Recognizes
Local Volunteers Katha Fields and Claire Snavely

Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council (GSSJC) recently honored Girl Scout volunteers Katha Fields and Claire Snavely with the Appreciation Pin for their many years of service to the organization. This award is presented to Girl Scout adults who have given outstanding service above the expectations required by the volunteer positions they have held in the organization. Both women received their awards at the Girl Scout’s annual Fall Council Meeting in October.

Katha Fields has served as a leader, service unit manager, trainer, and recruiter for the Girl Scouts. “Katha is dedicated to improving the lives of girls and to training other adults to do the same,” said Toni Gosney, Girl Scout volunteer. “She is an inspiration to all.”

Claire Snavely who was a Girl Scout as a child continues with the organization as a leader of her daughter’s troop and a recruiter. Using her skills as a geologist, she developed a conservation program for girls and organized a Girls Outdoor Roundup Program.

Girl Scouts of the USA is the world's preeminent organization for girls, with a membership of more than 3.5 million girls and adults. Today, as when founded in 1912, GSUSA helps cultivate values, social conscience, and self-esteem in young girls, while also teaching them critical life skills that will enable them to succeed as adults. In Girl Scouting--and its special girl-only environment--girls discover the fun, friendship and power of girls together.

Chartered by GSUSA to provide Girl Scouting locally, Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council is one of the largest Girl Scout councils in the country serving over 58,000 girl members and 14,000 adults in 21 southeast Texas counties.

GSSJS Pluralism Statement
Embracing and promoting pluralism is an integral part of every activity and plan of Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council, not disconnected or separate projects. Only individuals willing to accept and be educated about the basic tenet that Girl Scouting is for all girls may serve in volunteer leadership or staff positions.
