Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council recognizes Fort Bend volunteers

Fort Bend, Texas
(May 31, 2012) – Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council (GSSJC) recently honored Fort Bend volunteer Jackie Powell as well as Sienna Plantation and Texas Treasures Service Unit for their contributions to Girl Scouting.

"At 100 years old, I am often asked what has helped our organization endure over time," said GSSJC CEO Mary Vitek. "I believe the secret to our success is our volunteers. Volunteers represent 99 percent of the adult membership in Girl Scouts, and they work tirelessly to build girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place today and will, one day, become the future women leaders of our nation. We are proud to have these volunteers leading our young ladies into the next century of Girl Scouting."

Powell received the Appreciation Pin, a national award given to a candidate that has provided outstanding service to a geographic area or program delivery audience in a way that furthers the Council's goals. She received the award for accepting several volunteer assignments, serving as site manager for Sunshine Service Unit Weekend and serving as chair of the service unit’s Gold Award committee.

Sienna Plantation received the Certificate of Appreciation, a recognition given to a community building, business or non-registered adult who has given service to the Council or a service unit for several years. It is the first level of Community Awards.

Finally, Texas Treasures Service Unit received the President's Award. This award recognizes the service unit who meets 10 criteria points and recognizes the efforts of a geographic area or program delivery team in moving its area toward achievement of the Council's goals during a fiscal membership year.

GSSJC congratulates this volunteer, church and service unit on their contributions to Girl Scouting as the organization enters its second century of girl leadership.
