Chefs battered it out in Cookie Land for a title at Girl Scouts’ Just Desserts!
Houston-area dessert chefs unveiled tasty treats made with Girl Scout cookies
HOUSTON, Texas (January 29, 2013) – The Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council (GSSJC) hosted its annual donor appreciation event, Just Desserts, on Thursday, January 24 at The River Oaks Country Club. Guests were whisked away to Cookie Land, over the Thin Mint Mountains and across the Shortbread Sea, an enchanted place where some of Houston’s most talented chefs battled it out to create some of the tastiest desserts using America’s favorite cookie, the Girl Scout Cookie.
More than 100 guests enjoyed the pallet-pleasing event as celebrity chefs vied for the title of Most Creative Recipe, Best Use of Cookie, Best Table Display, Celebrity Judges Favorite, Most Delicious, Most Camp Friendly, Best Theme Interpretation and People’s Choice Award.
This year’s participants included chefs from Edible Designs by Jessie, Dolce Delights, Michael’s Cookie Jar, Dessert Gallery, The Dessert Boutique, Haven, Ooh La La: The Dessert Boutique and Phoenicia Specialty Foods.
Girl Scouts were paired with members of the media who served as the competition’s judges, which included Sonia Azad of ABC-13; KPRC Local 2’s Amy Davis; Clevereley Stone of Fox 26 and CBS Radio; Sara Stephens of Houston Family Magazine and Lizzet Lopez of Univision.
The girl judges and assistant chefs were all top cookie sellers, having each sold more than 1,000 boxes of cookies during the 2011-2012 Girl Scout year.
Participants earned the following titles:
- Most Creative Recipe: Edible Designs by Jessie
- Best Use of Cookie: Dolce Delights
- Best Table Display: Michael's Cookie Jar
- Celebrity Judges Favorite: Dessert Gallery
- Most Delicious: Ooh La La: The Dessert Boutique
- Most Camp Friendly: Haven
- Best Theme Interpretation: Phoenicia Specialty Foods
- People's Choice Award: Ooh La La: The Dessert Boutique
