Woodlands Girl Scout travels paths of adventure with destinations trip to Los Angeles

HOUSTON, Texas – Girl Scout Haley R., a sophomore at The Woodlands College Park High School, participated in Girl Scouts of the USA’s destinations program over the summer, traveling to Los Angeles. destinations are travel adventures for Girl Scouts ages 13-18 that take place all over the world and give girls the chance to meet remarkable girls, develop leadership skills, gain confidence and enjoy valuable learning opportunities.

To go on a destinations trip, girls must submit an application, two personal references and an essay explaining why they want to participate in the event and what skills or talents they can contribute to the group. Girl Scouts can apply for up to four trips per year. A limited number of girls are chosen for each destinations, and no more than two girls from one Girl Scout council are chosen to encourage attendees to make new friends. After being chosen for a destinations, Girl Scouts are responsible for raising the funds to go on the trip through selling cookies, money earned at a job or personal savings.

Hayley's destination, titled Hollywood Dreamin', took her to Los Angeles where she had the opportunity to learn about cinematography. She went on a private studio tour, visited the Hollywood sign, and even helped write a short film that was entered into the Los Angeles Digital Short Film Festival.

"I enjoyed being able to use a camera to tell a story," said Haley. "The most challenging part was working on a team and replying on one part of the team to complete their job so I could do mine."
