Success to Significance 2012

May, 2012

On Friday GSSJC hosted its second annual "Success to Significance" luncheon, presented by author liz murray and girl scout troopInsperity, honoring successful women leaders who have made significant contributions to their communities.

This year's honorees were Sylvia Garcia, the first woman to be elected to the Harris County Commissioner's court, and Cathy Wining-Thomas, who retired in 2001 from her role at ConocoPhillips as chief procurement officer. Both are fantastic examples of strong female leaders in the Houston community, and GSSJC was excited to honor these women.

Liz Murray, author of the New York Times Bestseller "Breaking Night," served as the event's keynote speaker and shared her inspiring story of how she transformed her life as a homeless teen to Harvard graduate.

This year's luncheon raised more than $225,000. All proceeds from "Success to Significance" benefit the Girl Scout Leadership Experience.
