Dr. Mary B. McIntire

Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council will be recognizing the leadership and life-long accomplishments of the Dean of the Glasscock School of Continuing Studies at Rice University, Dr. Mary B. McIntire.

Dr. McIntire made history in 1986 by being named the first female academic dean at Rice University. In 2007, she became the first woman to serve as president of Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council while also maintaining a demanding full-time career, and she was named one of Houston's Most Influential Women by Houston Woman Magazine in 2008.

Dr. McIntire is active with many community organizations, including Leadership Houston, Leadership America, United Way and Yes Academy. As a girl, she was unable to join Girl Scouts so the opportunity to be involved as an adult means even more to her. Dr. McIntire truly believes that Girl Scouts works to eliminate barriers to girl leadership and to create a society in which every girl has the opportunity to achieve her full potential…by "dreaming big."
