Dreaming big is what Girl Scouts does best! Girl Scouts is ushering in tomorrow's generation of women leaders while honoring those who have exemplified its mission and values today.

In 2013 we are proud to recognize the leadership and life-long accomplishments of the Dean of the Glasscock School of Continuing Studies at Rice University, Dr. Mary B. McIntire.

Dr. McIntire made history in 1986 by being named the first female academic dean at Rice University. Under Dean McIntire, Continuing Studies has flourished and provides professional and personal education to approximately 11,000 people per year. The school plays a vital role in Rice's engagement with Houston, a key element of their Vision for the Second Century.

In 2007, she became the first woman to serve as president of Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council while also maintaining her career, and was named one of Houston's Most Influential Women by Houston Woman Magazine in 2008.

Mary McIntire is active with many community organizations, including Leadership Houston, Leadership America, United Way and Yes Academy. As a girl, Dr. McIntire was unable to join Girl Scouts, so the opportunity to be involved as an adult means even more to her. McIntire truly believes that Girl Scouts works to eliminate barriers to girl leadership and to create a society in which every girl has the opportunity to achieve her full potential…by "dreaming big."
