Robotics Special Interest Group (2020/2021 Membership Year)
Due to current circumstances, the Robotics Special Interest Group is currently meeting virtually. Once circumstances allow for in-person meetings, we will notify current registrants and update this listing. In the Fall, the group will primarily be building robotics resources for troop leaders through virtual, long-distance work. Girls will skill-build by learning how to teach the subject.
This sign-up represents participation in the group from June 2020-September 2021.
Learn and expand your knowledge of how robots are built and how they work! In this Special Interest Group, you'll get the chance to build robots, discover how to code them, and have leadership opportunities. Girls will work with differing equipment based on their grade.
- Grades K-4: girls work with motorized Lego elements while they learn teamwork and explore real-world science. In this division Legos and motors are used with exploration of WeDo software and possible expansion into EV3 components.
- Grades 4-8: girls build and design Lego-based robots and take on engineering challenges. In this division Lego components and EV3/Mindstorms software are used.
When: The Robotics Special Interest Group meets year-round once a month on a Saturday morning (typically the second week of the month from 10-noon). Occasionally, additional or non-first week meetings/activities are held.
Bring: Permission Slip and Medical Form (These will be collected at the first in-person meeting attended and kept on-file so they only need to be supplied once.)

Please review our refund policy. By registering for this activity, you acknowledge that you understand the refund policy. Refunds will be issued for the Robotics SIG only when requested and if the girl has been registered in the group for 3 or less months and/or 2 meetings or less.
COMPETITION TEAMS: Competition is run independently from this group and is not a required activity for girls in the SIG. Members of the Robotics Special Interest Group (SIG) will be notified when competition teams are formed, which will allow them the opportunity to compete on a robotics team through tournaments organized by the FIRST organization. The competition season typically begins in September and a separate signup is currently open for those who are interested. Girls who do not join a team at the beginning of the season may need to wait until the following year to do so.
