Are you currently an enrolled Mariner ready to advance your
sail rating? Mate rating tests a Mariner's ability to sail solo,
demonstrating the same sailing skills required during Basic Sailing,
but at a much higher skill level. Mates are expected to be leaders
in the program. We have high expectations for the attitude and
conduct of those taking Mate and those who have passed Mate. Even if
you pass the sailing skills, poor attitude or conduct during the
Mate class could result in you having to take the class over.
Sunfish Mate is a two-weekend course, and you must attend
both weekends, no exception. These two weekends are September 12 -
14th AND September 26 - 28th.
Sunfish Mate Prerequisites:
- Basic Sailing is required before Sunfish Mate
- Before taking Sunfish Mate, you are you are expected to have been actively involved in Mariners for at least nine months after completion of Basic Sailing. Active means that you sailed regularly during that nine-month period.
- Sailed at least 6 sailing sessions (sailing as skipper, each sailing session is roughly 3hrs long)
- Assisted with two Intro weekends
In addition, Mariner Girls must obtain approval from the
Instructor Coordinator (instructor.coordinator@gmail.com)
to enroll in the Sunfish Mate class. Mariner girls are responsible
for reaching out to the Instructor Coordinator to verify their
status. After receiving verified approval, you are on your way to
becoming a Sunfish Mate!
Note: Once verified they may enroll.

Drop-off and Supervision: This is a drop-off event,
adults do not stay (Girl Scout ratio will be met by
facilitators.)
Adult Requirements: This is an event at camp; a
camp-trained adult is provided by the facilitators.
Tagalongs: No tagalongs are allowed at this
event.
