Join us for a day of fun with chalk art, music, food, and prizes as GSSJC joins forces with the Orange Show Center for Visionary Art at Smither Park! This vibrant, whimsical, urban space filled with mosaics and sculptures is the perfect setting to get those creative juices flowing!

There is an artist in each of us - everyone has a story to tell!
The Orange Show ethos, rooted in Jeff McKissack's creation of the Orange Show monument, champions the belief that art is central to the human experience and that everyone has the potential to be a creator. It promotes the idea of art-making as a celebration of daily life and visionary creativity, emphasizing that art can be DIY, from everyday materials, and is for everyone, regardless of formal training. As with Art Car Parade, the Orange Show's mission remains to break down the barrier between artists and viewers, showcasing the "outsider artist in all of us". Use these ideas to guide your work!

Contest Criteria:
Come with your ideas and concepts, but we encourage you to limit planning, and instead, create art that is in and of the moment, inspired by its setting! Prizes will be awarded, by Orange Show judges, to three pieces that best exhibit this artistic spirit, using the following guidelines:
-Narrative imagery that tells a personal story, shaped by memory, place, and imagination
-Imagery that communicates without words or slogans
-Expressive, imperfect, and uniquely yours!

Event Details:
We hope to see lots of troops in attendance, however, to level the playing field, we will now have all contestants entering and participating individually. Each contestant will be designated a large area to create their chalk art design within. Contestants will have 2.5 hrs to complete the design, but this event is freely structured - we encourage you to take breaks, explore the festival and park installations, and refuel while you create!
