Are you a currently enrolled Mariner ready to
advance your sail rating? This class goes into more depth about
Sunfish sailing techniques and includes the basics of racing and
how to rig for performance.
Sloop Captain Prerequisites:
Sloop Skipper is required before Sloop
Captain.
Before taking Sloop Captain,
you are expected to have been actively involved in Mariners
for at least six months after completion
of Sloop Skipper.
Mariners who have
completed Mate are expected to lead and serve. In order to
qualify to take Sloop Captain, AFTER completing Sloop
Skipper, you must have provided
3 hours of
service to Mariners
1
weekend as Sloop Crew Aide
Assisted at two Intro Weekends OR served as a Sail
Aide for two Basic Sailing/Sloop Crew Classes.
Texas law requires that
you have a Texas Safe Boater Card. For details, see the
Texas Parks & Wildlife website http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/learning/boater_education/
In addition, Mariner Girls must obtain approval from the
Instructor Coordinator (instructor.coordinator@gmail.com)
to enroll in the Sloop Captain class. Mariner girls are
responsible for reaching out to the Instructor Coordinator to
verify their status. After receiving verified approval, you are
on your way to becoming a Sloop Captain!
Note: Once verified they may
enroll.

Drop-off and Supervision: This is a drop-off
event, adults do not stay (Girl Scout ratio will be met by
facilitators.)
Adult Requirements: This is an event at camp; a
camp-trained adult is provided by the facilitators.
Tagalongs: No tagalongs are allowed at this
event.
