Congratulations to the 129 Senior and Ambassador Girl Scouts who recently earned their Gold Award for making a long-lasting impact in their communities. The Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council honored the girls during its annual Highest Award ceremony, which drew record attendance this year.
Of the 129 Gold Award Girl Scouts representing areas from across Southeast Texas, 79 attended the May 19 ceremony at the Stafford Civic Center. More than 300 family members and friends attended, and 21 community partners and a host of council staff and volunteers were also there for the special event. Sharron Melton, news anchor at CW39 Houston and former GSSJC board member, served as the ceremony emcee.
The 70 Bronze and Silver Award Girl Scouts attending the ceremony admired the Gold Award Girl Scouts' accomplishments, seeing them as a source of inspiration as they seek to pursue the Highest Award. The younger girls each earned an "I was Inspired by a Gold Award Girl Scout" patch.
The 2024 Gold Award projects focused on various issues, ranging from mental health awareness and STEM to feminism and homelessness. Girls earn the Girl Scout Gold Award by planning and executing a Take Action project. They must devote at least 80 hours to the project, plus:
