Taking the Road Less Traveled

Elsenhans believes it is crucial for girls to see women in leadership roles and to see women consistently having each other’s backs.

“It’s called the good ol’ boys club for a reason – they help each other,” says Elsenhans. “Girl Scouts exposes girls to what’s possible for women, instills a sense of creativity and innovation, teaches them to set goals, and emphasizes the importance of being accountable and responsible.”

Advice for Girls

When prompted to share her advice for girls, Elsenhans encourages them to find their voice and identify how they want to show up in the world.

“Don’t take the path of least resistance," Elsenhans says, referring to choices she made throughout her career. “Take the path that offers you the most options – and that might mean you start with the toughest, hardest path and give it your best shot. There are very few jobs women can’t do, so go for it.”
